What are Virtual Holidays?

Virtual holidays are holidays which you can enjoy without leaving home, hospital or work. They take you on a guided tour of the world and allow you to experience all the things you would on a physical holiday.

All the things you would expect to do on a "nomal" holiday, you do during a virtual holiday, including visiting landmarks and tourist attractions, as well as experiencing the local culture.

How does it work?

Each virtual holiday comes as a gift set. Each set comes complete with a guidebook and a selection of items which bring the holiday to life in your own home. Descriptive writing, links to audio and visual points of reference and physical props.

The holidays are written as if you are really there, telling you what you can see and hear. For example "As you step out onto the observation deck, you feel your breath catch in your throat as you take in the spectacular views. Look out of the great glass windows at the skyscrapers, office blocks, roads, shops and houses. See the Yarra River meandering through the city."

The holidays contain suggested activities, recommended books, films and music which help to capture the essence of the destination and are easily accessible from shops and the library. There are links to online museums and galleries, web cameras and other sites of interest. Also included are regional recipes, which can be cooked so that you get to eat the food you would on holiday.

There are so many reasons, whether your looking for an alternative holiday, a distraction from the monotony of daily life or an unusual gift.

Maybe you can't go away on holiday because you are physically disabled and can't cope with travelling or are unable to get insurance.

The holidays make ideal gifts for birthdays or other occasions.

Have you been on holiday and would like to reminisce about your time there?

Do I need a computer?

No. The holidays are written initially for people who can't use computers and then the websites are added afterwards as an added feature. While the internet can be used to enhance the holiday, it’s not an obligatory requirement – making them suitable for people who can’t or don’t use computers.
